This guide will show an administrator how to alleviate a FileVault drive lockout for an Intune joined corporate macOS device.
Unlocking a FileVault Drive
FileVault, which is applied to corporate macOS devices, ensures that the data on the drive is encrypted. When performing actions that require access to system information without logging in, such as repairing an installation, the FileVault key will need to be located and entered.

Device FileVault Drive Unlock
- Navigate to the macOS Devices – Intune portal, locate and select the desired device from the list.
- From the device Overview page, select the Recovery Keys tab. From this page, click Show Recovery Key to display the key.
- The recovery key will be displayed, make sure to capture the key and distribute it to the locked device.
