Install Office on your Phone

This guide will walk users through the process of getting their mobile phone configured to be in compliance with MAM configuration settings.

With the successful deployment of the Device Security configuration package, your organization will now have restrictions on android and iOS mobile devices that require the use of Microsoft Approved Applications to access organizational resources that are housed within the internal Microsoft environment.

Due to the policy enforcement, functionality like interacting with the web browser form of popular 365 suite applications such as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint has now been revoked. Users will now need to follow the steps listed below to gain access to the desired application resources.

Note:

This guide is meant to be followed by users setting up their mobile phones (Android or iOS), if a user wishes to set up an additional mobile device like a tablet or iPad a different process will need to be followed due to the Microsoft Authenticator App not being compatible to support two instances of MFA credentials stored on separate devices.

Mobile Application Installation

  1. A mandatory requirement for the mobile device is that the Microsoft Authenticator App must be present on the device. You can achieve this by opening the app store on the device, utilizing the search feature in the store specify Microsoft Authenticator and download the application.
  2. Once the application has been successfully installed locate and select the Authenticator App.
  3. Tip for iOS users: If you cannot locate the application but it is showing installed in the app store, there should be an option to open the app from the store. Additionally, you can swipe all the way right to access the search functionality from the app library or pull down on the home screen to access additional search functionality.
  4. When you access the Authenticator App you will be prompted to link a Microsoft Account, in our case we will be selecting the Work or School Account option.
  5. A pop-up will be displayed, two options will be displayed. The Sign In option will be useful for users that have already completed an MFA registration process before and are looking to gain access for the Authenticator App on a new mobile device. The Scan QR Code option is useful for users that are completing the MFA registration process for the very first time.
  6. We will proceed with the Sign In option, supply the necessary account credentials.

  7. You will be prompted to verify an MFA challenge during the registration process, a two-digit number will be displayed that you will be required to enter if you didn’t catch the code select the I can’t see the number option this will display the code again; tap the number to redisplay keyboard.
  8. When successfully completed you will be notified that the account was added, select finish to finalize the Authenticator App establishment phase.
  9. If done correctly, the account will be displayed under the Authenticator App home page.
  10. Once the Authenticator App has been successfully configured on the device, you can establish trusted access to Microsoft tied resources through any desired office 365 app that is available through the app store (the usual suspects are Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, and Microsoft Planner).
  11. This can be achieved by opening the app store on the device, utilizing the search feature in the store specify any of the mentioned applications above and download the application.
  12. Once the application has been successfully installed locate and select the desired Microsoft app.
  13. When you access any of the Microsoft applications you will be prompted to sign in with a Microsoft Account, you will be using the same credentials that you used to authenticate with the Microsoft Authenticator App failure to do so will result in denied access to the intended application due to the inability to cross reference the stored credentials embedded in the app.
  14. Once you supply the credentials for the account you will be redirected to the Authenticator App for a verification process, if done successfully you will be redirected back to the original app and receive a notification that Your organization is now protecting its data in this app. Select Okay to initiate the application restart.
  15. When you reopen the application, one final verification process should be initiated and when it is successfully complete you should have access to the application and all the resources tied to the connected account.
