This guide will provide background information on how to modify an existing sensitivity label that is being applied to items.
Sensitivity labels can be extended to other Microsoft products like SharePoint, Teams, Power BI, and SQL but this requires E3 licensure which is outside the scope of a Security Essentials Deployment.

Microsoft Purview uses sensitivity labels to classify and protect data, and the labels have a global scope that travels with the data.

Modifying a Sensitivity Label
- Navigate to the Labels – Purview portal, locate and select the label you want to alter. Select Edit Label in the pop-up menu.
- Upon opening the policy, all the information of the policy will be displayed. 3 points of interest will be available to Edit. You can modify the sections as needed.
- Name and Tooltip: Adjust the non-functional elements of the label, such as the Name or Description.
- Scope: Specifies which items that the label will be applied to.
- Items: Specifies the rule enforcement that will take place on the defined items; depending on the configured scope a specific portal will be accessible to adjust these rules.
- Groups & Sites: Specifies which SharePoint or Teams sites or groups the label will be enforced on; this requires E3 Licensure.
- Name and Tooltip: Adjust the non-functional elements of the label, such as the Name or Description.
- Once the necessary change has been made, the last step is to finalize revisions by selecting Save Label.
- A final prompt will notify you that the label has been updated, select Done to finalize the modification process.
