Flagging a Suspicious Email

Just as the title suggests, these suspicious emails can end up in your mailbox. They might have been missed in the shuffle of threat protection scanning; they just need to be properly identified so an Analyst can review them from the Quarantine Queue! Let's start by accessing our Outlook mailbox.

  1. Open the Outlook Desktop App.
  2. Locate the suspicious email.
  3. Depending on how you have the ribbon displayed on the top of the interface, you will locate Home tab and select the three dots at the top right of the screen followed by the Report Message option (collapsed ribbon) or the Report Message dropdown (expanded ribbon).

  4. Upon toggling the option, you will be given Three report selections. The Junk option is for mail that hasn’t been captured by the Spam threat detection policy, it is usually unsolicited mail asking you to buy products. The Phishing option is for mail that hasn’t been captured by the Phishing threat detection policy, it is usually mail that is asking for banking information or some sort of credential information tied to an account you own. The Not Junk option is for mail that has been sent to your Junk Email folder of your Outlook mailbox, but you want to have delivered to your Inbox.
  5. Depending on the Report selection you will receive different notifications, when processing the message report, a pop-up message will be displayed asking for verification you will be given the option to not display the message on further interactions if desired.
  6. Once the process has been successfully carried out you will receive a notification on the message that the report functionality has been completed, this will result in the message being moved to the proper folder location within the Outlook Desktop App. At this point, the email is on its way to a Sittadel Email Security expert, and you can expect to see the results of their investigation in 8 business hours or less!
